No matter what platform you search, the number one advice you will come across is to find your niche and niche down.
Let’s be honest it’s easier said than done. I’m here to give you a little more comfort as you begin you’re thought process.
What is a niche?
In general, your niche is going to be the category that you specialize in. The first question you can ask yourself is, what will is your content be about?
Since you found my blog, we can assume that your niche will fall somewhere under the beauty category. Great! But we need to dive a little deeper.
This is where niching down comes into play. You need to figure out what makes your content shareable.
Who is your content is for? What value can you bring to your specific category? And is it profitable?
A scenario
- Let’s say your niche is skincare & makeup for people with acne scarring.
- I would be searching for how to cover up my dark spots because I have a hard time with hyperpigmentation. So I do a YouTube search and BOOM your video appears.
- I loved your YouTube video so much that I want to see what other tips you had. I decided to subscribe to your channel so I wouldn’t miss out.
- The content was shareable because it was informational and helpful.

- You brought value by creating content and giving tips on a topic that people may not have been able to find before.
- This category is profitable because there are tons of products you can recommend. As well as tons of brands you can work with.
When you take the time to find what you are passionate about you are able to help the viewer and make a connection.
Now, someone who can recommend your channel to new potential subscribers.
Questions you can ask yourself to help you niche down:
- What in the beauty industry do you do best?
- What type of makeup or skincare is your specialty?
- Do you have a unique routine or specific type of product you use?
- Does your content offer something that you feel the beauty industry is lacking?

- Is your content more informational or entertaining?
Give yourself a 90-day trial before you find your niche
Give yourself a 3-6 month trial period to see if this is something you are passionate about.
Your niche should be something you enjoy doing. Take the time to plan out your content and see what type of responses you receive.
If people engage in your content, you’re on the right path. Pay attention to which type of content they seem to enjoy more.
ie. Are you seeing a higher reach on tutorials or product reviews?
Checking your analytics will help you decide where to focus your time and energy.
During this time, don’t be afraid to explore other interests. If you enjoy doing natural everyday makeup but also love to go full glam for special occasions, post both. See if your followers respond more to one over the other.
Tips to Find Your Niche:
- Write down 3-5 niches that interest you.
- For each niche, make a list of as many content ideas as you can. (If you can’t think of at least 10 off the top of your head, you may want to rethink your niche.)
- Decided which social media platform you feel will benefit you the most & focus on that ONE for now.
- Post! Stop overthinking & start posting your content. It’s the only way you will begin to find your niche.
Don’t get discouraged
One piece of advice I wish I heard when I was starting is, you don’t have to figure it all out right away.
Give yourself time, enjoy the process, and don’t rush.
The content that goes viral is always the one least expected. As long as you love what you are doing, progress will happen.
My second piece of advice is: don’t compare yourself to the competition.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve second-guessed my niche because I focused on how much faster other accounts were growing.
Worrying about how fast other accounts are progressing will only hold you back. It’s okay to search for inspiration but always remember: YOU are what makes your niche special.
