Why is the Cheetah Costume Trending?
Cheetah print has made a comeback, and as a Jersey girl, I’m so here for it!
From runway shows to street style, animal print has clawed its way back into the spotlight. What better time to go all out than Halloween?
Not only does a cheetah costume give you an effortless look, but it’s an easy DIY Halloween costume. All you need is a few key pieces and a fierce makeup look!

Fierce Cheetah Makeup Look: Step-by-Step
If you’re new to creative makeup this look is beginner-friendly! Just follow these steps:
Before we get started. Brows are optional. Sculpted brows, concealed brows, fluffy brows, whatever you choose will work.
Step 1: Foundation
Start with your regular foundation routine.
As you continue with these steps you will create cheetah-inspired features, so be sure to blend well and keep it light.
The best way to do this is to start with your brush and then go back over with a beauty blender.
Step 2: Sculpt the nose
Cheetahs and leopards have wide nose bridges. Instead of snatching the nose you want to widen it using concealer.
Drag your concealer from the outer corners of your eye down towards your nostrils.
Next, apply your concealer like you normally would for a full glam look:
- under your eyes
- around your new nose
- on your upper lips
- the corner of your eyes
Tip: Blend the concealer onto your upper lip to help define the “snout” (we’ll add the details later).
Step 3: Define the eyes
To keep it simple add some concealer to your eyelids and set it with a translucent powder.
Grab a small amount of white concealer or face paint. Apply it right under the eye and along the edge of your new nose bridge.
Then blend out the edges into your foundation.
Let’s go bold! Outline the entire eye with black eyeliner. For the top, you can use a liquid eyeliner to create a wing, but for the bottom use a pencil liner so you can smudge it out in the next step.
Using your eyeliner pencil extend the inner tear duct down the sides of your new nose bridge. You can use a dense eyeshadow brush to smudge the line, making it blend into your skin.
Next, use a white eyeshadow to blend into the corners of your eye.
If you’ve lost some of the white underneath your eyes you can use a white eyeshadow to reemphasize this area.
Lastly, pop on a pair of lashes or simply use a couple of coats of mascara for that feline gaze.
If you’re feeling extra creative try some of these eyeshadow looks:
Step 4: Sculpt the face
Grab your everyday bronzer to define your cheekbones, jawline, and temples for that sharp, cat-like structure. You want to look fierce, but approachable.
- For a more realistic nose, you can also use the same bronzer to create more definition in the nose (optional).
Step 5: Create the snout
Take your bronzer on a small dense eyeshadow brush and draw a line to define the cupid’s bow of your lip.
Using a black or brown liquid eyeliner or face paint, fill in underneath your nostrils.
For the lips, you can go for a classic nude with brown lip liner, or for a more dramatic look go for an all-black lip.
Step 6: The spots
To complete the transformation, it’s time to add the spots. Don’t worry about perfection, after all, it’s what makes these felines so unique.
You should note that there is a difference between cheetah and leopard spots.
Cheetahs have solid black spots all over, while leopard spots are grouped together with a tan center.
For a cheetah look, just use black eyeliner to create solid dots around your forehead, cheekbones, and neck.
For a leopard look, use a brown or tan eyeshadow to create dots around your forehead, cheekbones, and neck. Then use a black liner to create semicolon shapes around each dot.
How to Create a Cheetah Costume
Let’s start with the basics for your cheetah Halloween costume. Here’s your shopping or closet raiding list:
Animal Print Pieces: If you already own cheetah or leopard print clothes, you’re already ahead of the game! Since cheetah print can be worn every day, you have a lot of freedom in the pieces you choose.
We’re talking bodycon dresses, leggings, cheetah-print tops, bodysuits, scarfs, faux fur jackets, whatever you can get your paws on.
Accessorize: Cat ears, a tail, and gloves. These are quick and affordable costume props that will make sure your costume is easily recognizable.
Black Boots or Heels: Knee-high boots or combat boots can add an extra touch to the final look. But if you want to really make a statement, a pointy-toe heel will give that claw-like effect.
This look is all about being bold and unapologetic, and the best part is it can be customized to your style. Whether you want to keep things minimal or go all out with spots, accessories, and makeup, you’ll definitely turn some heads.
